The UK is just discovering what other visitors to this wonderful part of the Philippines have long realised - the magic that is Boracay! (Filipinos themselves already know it as the finest tourist resort in their country.)
The island's famous White Beach has been described by British publication "TV Quick" as the “Number One Tropical Beach In The World", and not without good reason.
This stretch of white powdery sand stretches for an amazing 2.5 miles, and yet it is just one of many beautiful beaches Boracay has to offer.

It wasn't until the 1970s that tourism began to develop in Boracay - the island initially became popular with backpackers.
Boracay Island was a well guarded secret, almost possessively, so that only a few knew of its existence. Word soon spread, of course, as more and more people around the globe became aware of the treasures Boracay had to offer, Hotels, bars, restaurants and other facilities started opening up as the huge tourism potential of the island was realised.

A place to unwind |
Today, Boracay is firmly established as one of the major tourist destinations in the Philippines, if not Asia!
With a seemingly endless list of sports and activities on offer, areas of outstanding beauty to visit and hundreds of places to eat, drink and be merry, this island is just waiting for your visit.
Tourist Seasons
High Season starts in October and ends in May. Tourists come in numbers in search of the sun, beautiful beaches and wealth of activities.
The Peak Season is when the tourists are at their height. This includes Christmas, New Year, Chinese New Year, and Holy Week (Easter Week). Some resorts have a premium on their rooms, and the island gets fully booked. Make sure you book as far in advance as possible if you intend to visit Boracay at this time.
The Low Season begins in May, and ends in October. There is more rain than usual, and generally fewer tourists.
Getting There
There are regular flights to Boracay from Manila, and also from Cebu. Boracay is served by two airports, both on the neighboring island of Panay.
Caticlan Airport is the smaller airport 5 minutes from Boracay. Due to the shorter length of the runway, smaller turboprop airplanes are used.
Kalibo Airport is a larger airport 90 minutes from Boracay which accommodates bigger airpcraft. Air-conditioned transport operates between Kalibo Airport and the ferry port at Caticlan.
At Caticlan Port there are banca pump boats that ferry passengers between the Caticlan mainland and Boracay Island normally between sunrise and sunset. The trip from mainland to island is around 20 minutes. If you have heavy luggage, there are porters who assist for a small tip.
